What is it with the current society we live in where we feel the need to embrace stupidity?
Allow me to elaborate for you!
I was reading one of the many "gossip" magazines the other day whilst in the waiting room for the doctors (I'm fine by the way) and whilst reading the magazine I read an interview with Joey Essex from that horrible TV show The Only Way Is Essex and he was asked the question "Where will the 2012 Olympics be held?" to which he responded "Olympic"! Now I am unsure as to whether he is someone who is actually just that self involved not to know the answer to this question or whether he is just playing up to a stereotype (I'm still slightly unsure as to which is worse) but the fact is that we as a nation seem to embrace this kind of stupidity! It was the same with the late Jade Goody, she was thrown to fame basically for her lack of education and I find this so annoying because we should be embracing people with real talent not looking up to people who basically stand and look pretty and occasionally come out with a stupid comment!
The even more annoying thing about this "craze" is that we now have a nation of young people who actually just wish to be famous for the sake of it and not for actually having a talent!
I am much more drawn to celebrities who have some intelligence and intellect as apposed to those uneducated and self involved people who just want to be known! I do not look forward to the day when someone informs me that their hero is from "TOWIE" or some other silly copy of an American TV show.
I just hope and pray that the people who end up representing good old Leeds on the show "We Are Leeds" will be worthy of it and make us look more educated than the rival shows! Though I won't hold my breath!
