MARKY MARK
Obviously not a Drag Queen but still a ‘Queen of the Scene’ no less.
Here, in his own words, is the story of “the Infamous DJ” MarkyMark
"Born and raised in Sheffield I’ve always been a Yorkshire lad. I attended Meadowhead Secondary School before going to Norton College. When I left college I started working part-time in retail. I was already very interested in DJ’in and had DJ’d at several school discos from as young as 10.
At the age of 18 I crossed the border and moved to West Yorkshire, Castleford to be exact. By this time I was Branch Manager but was still very interested in music and wanted to DJ after doing several friends parties I got my first regular DJ job at The Post Haste pub in Wakefield I loved it and haven’t looked back since.
Over the years I’ve worked in some of the best pubs and clubs in Yorkshire such as S29, The Sun and Lingards in Bradford, Bar-Celona in Sheffield and The New Penny, The Bridge, Blayds Bar & The Viaduct Leeds. I’m currently working in 3 of the best venues I’ve ever worked in The New Union Wakefield, Queens Court Leeds & after a few years away I’m back at The Sun Bradford.
I have been at Queens Court just over two years now since May 2008 DJ’in twice a week upstairs in The Loft for the original and best Monday night out in Leeds “Pink Pounder” and The biggest party in town “FlashBack Friday Night”
Whilst working in Leeds I have had some fantastic experiences including introducing local drag legends Bears Aloud on to the main stage and DJ’in to a huge outdoor crowd on Lower Briggate at Leeds Pride 2009. I have also been involved with Drag Idol Leeds for two years running which to date has raised over £12,000 for local Hiv Charities and has become one of the best events of the year, can’t wait for this year’s Pride and Drag Idol.
Outside of Leeds I play a big part in the organising of both The Huddersfield Pink Picnic and Wakefield Pride. I also host the day’s entertainment on stage at both these events and love the buzz that comes from the crowds enjoying the atmosphere and the entertainment."
