KIMBEARLEY CLARKE
This is Bears Aloud’s, Kimbearley Clarke aka. Martin Donovan, telling the story of Kimbearly and the rise to fame with Bears Aloud!.
“Whilst living in London a number of years ago myself and a few friends had a joke about what our drag names would be. I've always said that mine would be Kimberley Clarke. Never would I have guessed that years down the line it would come true.
Kimbearley was created as a bit of fun in February of 2009 when we decided to enter Drag Idol and has since proved extremely popular on the Leeds scene.
After help from other reputable drag queens on the circuit and Blayds Bar, Kimbearley was imprinted on the Leeds scene along with the other members of Bears Aloud.
After the first show, we were asked to perform at a number of Pride events and even secured a place on the main stage at Leeds Pride 2009. This was something I never thought would happen and was so grateful to be part of it. Not only performing with some amazing acts and people that are part of the Leeds Gay Scene but to perform to so many people in such a short space of time.
As Kimbearley I have been privileged to travel with the group and have performed at XXL in London, Belfast (those who know me well will understand the fear behind this gig!!!!) and have also had the pleasure of performing in a number of bars at Gran Canaria Pride 2010.
I think one of the reasons myself and the group has taken off is that we are very different from any other act on the Leeds scene (and anywhere else in the country) As such I think that's one of the reasons our popularity grew. I also think that underneath it all we are just a regular bunch of girls who like their food and of course their pies which gives us our approachability.
I've had a fantastic time over the last year or so and would like to thank everyone involved in making it one of the greatest experiences of my life. I'm looking forward to the next year with a new line up and lots more fun. As quoted we are the hairiest beariest girl band around.
