gay Pride in Leeds images of Leeds
Leeds Pride 2008 will be the 3rd yearly event. Leeds Pride has very quickly established itself as not only the most popular Gay event in the city attracting over 10,000 people in its second year (2007) but also the most appreciated, winning the first ‘Owlie’ for best event voted for by the Leeds LGBT communities.

It offers a unique mix of commercial, civic and community support with Yorkshire MESMAC as the leading LGBT charity in the region. It's aim is to bring together key stakeholders including the commercial Gay scene venues, Leeds City Council, West Yorkshire Police, community groups and other key players to plan and support the free event.

Leeds Pride will take place on Sunday 3rd August 2008. Opening the event, in Leeds Millennium Square, will be civic leaders welcoming the vast crowds of LGBT people, their families, friends and allies to the city. Then the fun begins with the opening of the main-stage graced by some of the region’s and country’s top performers. As the crowd are entertained the floats are being marshalled for the centrepiece of Leeds Pride, the massive parade through the City. As the paraders and floats rumble, sashay, skip, scream and whistle around the specially designed route to ensure maximum visibility, the city’s Gay venues are readying themselves for their busiest day of the year; determined to do what they do best - keeping the revellers entertained to the early hours.

Planned events for Leeds Pride 2008 include:
  • Main Stage at Millennium Square featuring comedy acts, local bands, dance performances, DJs from local clubs and bars, plus opening and closing remarks from local dignitaries
  • A massive street parade that winds its way through some of the most visible parts of the city
  • Market area: commercial stalls selling products aimed at the LGBT community
  • Community area: stalls, recruitment and information from local LGB groups
  • Youth focus area: a safe and creative space for our young people
