Kira the Owlie Winner!
Hey lovelies, it’s great to back! Hope you guys are all well. A lot has changed since I last wrote to you. I’m now an Leeds LGBT Owlie award winner! Yes, I know… I AM fabulous! But we’ll come back to that in a moment!
It’s been a while since my last column. Mostly because I’ve been busy preparing for this year’s above mentioned Owlie awards which were held on Tuesday 17th February. What an incredible night it was too! This year saw two brand new hosts, Daisy DuPont and Mamma Coil. The night was attended to by pretty much everyone who works on the gayleeds scene and lots of our LGB&T friends.
I was honoured to once again be asked to open the show and chose to sing Delta Goodream’s ‘Together we are one’ which I thought was quite fitting. I also rocked out a Queen medley, just for good measure! It really was an amazing night. It’s always a pleasure to see our LGB&T community coming together for such an event and to see us all cheering and supporting each other. I was so proud of our very own Degsie who walked away with this years ‘Hero of the scene’ award. It’s about time he was acknowledged for the years he’s put into making the Leeds scene a happier place.
Did I mention that I won an Owlie myself? Well I did! I was honoured to receive a ‘Hall of fame’ award… which I’ve been told is a subtle hint that I should be retiring right about now… sorry to disappoint guys… that won’t be happening! On a serious note though I’ve worked on the Leeds scene for many years (even though I am only 25!) and I’m blown away by the fact that you guys voted for me, so thanks again.
The other big surprise of the night was the Leeds pride headliner announcement. Our Leeds pride team revealed the acts one by one and the room went wild when it was announced Union J will be headlining this year’s event. Being the next major event on the Leeds LGB&T and gayleeds calendar this year, the countdown has begun! Check out the website for full details at...

Now, as some of you know there have been a few changes to my weekly schedule and I have some brand new karaoke’s for you all. As if you don’t see enough of me already, you can now catch me at three new LGB&T friendly venues in and around Leeds. So my new weekly schedule is as follows:
Mondays @ the Corner Pin in York
Tuesdays @ the Westleigh Hotel in Bradford
Wednesdays @ the Gardeners Arms in Lofthouse
Thursdays @ the Fleece in Horbury
Fridays @ the Fleece in Horsforth
Sundays @ the Viaduct Showbar in gayleeds (Leeds Central - 2pm-8pm)
Sundays @ The Bridge Bar in gayleeds (Leeds Central - Alternate weeks 9pm-2am)
That’s a lot of karaoke!
The last thing I’d like to mention this month is a charity event which is coming up on Tuesday 17th March. Some very good friends of mine are holding an event to raise money for Ellis’ cradle which is a charity raising money for cuddle cots. Like you I’d not heard of a cuddle cot until recently. The cuddle cot is used for stillborn babies and late miscarriages, keeping the babies cool for longer, slowing the decomposition process, enabling parents to grieve and say goodbye. It is a lifeline for these parents but is not funded by the NHS so all donations are desperately needed. The charity event is being held at the Cedar court hotel, Wakefield and tickets are £35 each which includes a champagne reception, a three course meal and top class entertainment all night long. The event is in memory of Ellis who was born sleeping. Please read his Mummy Katie’s story and get your tickets for the event by following the link or visiting the Facebook page Ellis’ Cradle.
Well guys, I think that’s about all for this month. It’s been great to be back in the gayLeeds.com saddle. I look forward to seeing you all at my various venues out and about and I’ll get back to you all next month…
xXx Kira Live
