Leeds Pride on 1st August 2010 has the pleasure of hosting the incredible, Tameka on the main stage in Millennium Square.

(GAY LEEDS) WHO IS TAMEKA AND HOW DID YOU GET INTO PERFORMING?
(TAMEKA) Performing has been a big part of my life. I have been singing ever since I remember (starting in gospel choirs). Through my life I've dabbled into various genres of music and have been fortunate enough to perform various places around the world. To perform at Pride festivals means a lot to me as I'm an OUT LOUD & PROUD lesbian. We, as gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender have come a long way but still have a road ahead of us. YOU RECENTLY PERFORMED AT LONDON PRIDE. WHAT MADE IT SPECIAL FOR YOU?
It was truly amazing performing to 14,000 people in Trafalgar Square, it hit its maximum capacity and numbers have not been finalized yet. It was FANTASTIC to see so many gay,lesbian,bisexual and transgender people in one place. So many PROUD people!!!
ARE YOU STILL AIMING FOR A SPOT AT THE 2011 EUROVISION SONG CONTEST?
I am aiming for Eurovision but with my busy schedule this year and next year I decided to put it off until 2012.
WHAT WOULD YOU SAY ARE YOUR BEST KNOWN SONGS SO FAR?
"Dance With Me (I'm Your Ecstasy)", "Take Me Higher", "Take Me To The Top (Of The Rhythm)" and the soon to be released single "Cry" (with CONTROL)

WHICH OTHER ACTS HAVE YOU PERFORMED WITH?
There are so many. Just to name a few, I have performed with artistes such as M-People, Jools Holland, Sonique, Toyah Wilcox, , Kim Mazelle, Dana International, Kelly Lorenna, Rowetta, , Janet Jacksons crew (dancers, etc...) Tina Turner’s band, Princes band (in Minneapolis), BWO, Crush, Oceanic, etc, etc...plus many famous classic soul and mowtown artistes.

WHO ARE YOUR FAVOURITE ARTISTS?
Prince, Janet Jackson, PINK, Boy George, Mary J Blige, etc, etc, etc (how long have you got???)

ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO LEEDS PRIDE?
ABSOLUTELY! I love to be involved with the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community. Being a lesbian myself it's important to be OUT LOUD and PROUD!!! It's all about celebrating who we are and to never forget the Stonewall Riots. It is my first time in Leeds but hopefully not my last!

WHAT ARE YOUR ASPIRATIONS AND HOPES FOR THE FUTURE?
My biggest hope for the future is that my (American) partner and I (all though I have lived in the states with my family but still hold a British passport) will be able to move back to the states. The USA has strict immigration rules. Same sex couple from different countries (bi-national couples) aren't allowed to live together in the states. The US partner cannot sponsor their same sex foreign partner to live with them in America. What gets me is that if my partner was of the opposite sex we'd have no problem. We are keeping our fingers crossed that President Obama will have some compassion for couples like us. There are a lot of us out there!!!
