Bridge Bar's 'Build A Wall For Lyall' Fundraiser
The Bridge LGBT Bar in Leeds are to hold a spectacular fundraiser on Sunday 26 February entitled ‘Build A Wall For Lyall.’
Two Year old Lyall Cookward from Leeds was born in 2009 and was diagnosed as having Downs Syndrome and severe heart problems. After many operations, Lyall was allowed home to live with his parents, lesbian couple Steph Ward and Sharon Cook, 18 months after he was born.
Lyall uses a ventilator to keep him alive and needs 24/7 care from his parents. Lyall uses a specialist hospital bed at home and the only room big enough in his house to accommodate him is the family living room.
As a result of this, Lyall desperately needs a bedroom so that he can rest and have his health needs attended to in private.
Lyall’s parents have founded a ‘Build A Wall For Lyall’ campaign in which they are urging people to donate £1 to buy a virtual brick which will hopefully go towards the massive sum of £13,000 that the couple need to raise.
On hearing of the appeal, Bridge owner Lance Jessop decided to hold a huge fundraiser in order to help Lyall get his own room. Lance said: “An LGBT community is not just about people who go out drinking in bars, it is about everyone in our city and beyond and it is our duty to be able to support those who need it. I hope we raise thousands for Lyall and his family.”
The Bridge hope to gather a massive array of talented performers for the night-which will be announced shortly. There will be some amazing raffle prizes to collect and Lyall’s parents and friends will be there to witness what will surely be an amazing night.
So, don’t forget, ‘Build A Wall For Lyall’ at The Bridge on 26th February at 7pm.
