So Not Amused!
Earlier today I was researching and writing a news story that positively made my blood boil. I was furious and still am.
The story was about a Leeds ‘charity’ called Catholic Care who are now, for the fourth time, appealing because they do not want to adopt children to gay couples.
I have had many experiences with this ‘charity’ throughout my life and I just cannot understand their bigotry and intolerance towards LGBT people.
As well as adopting children, Catholic Care also run children’s homes. Through no fault of my own, I lived in one such home when I was 15 years old and along with many other children, being in care was hard. But, none of the kids who I lived with or who I knew from the other homes had a gay or lesbian parent.
So, I don’t understand, why Catholic Care are so against LGBT parents. I do not know what qualifies them to say that we are unable to care for and love a child because of our sexuality. It is not as though for years they have had an influx of children into their care homes who have been abused, abandoned, mistreated or neglected by gay parents.
I am not saying that straight people make bad parents either as they don’t, the majority make wonderful parents but, at the end of the day, individuals make parents and whether they are good, bad or indifferent to parenthood is down to them as an individual.
So why has this ‘charity’ bunched together every gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender person in the country and deemed us unfit to love? Unfit to take care of a precious life and unfit to teach a child right from wrong?
As far as I am concerned, bigotry and prejudice is wrong and hateful and certainly no way to bring up a child.
