Citrus
If you wish to dine away from the city centre then, as well as being an amazingly LGBT welcoming and friendly place, Citrus Bar and Restaurant on North Lane in Headingley also offers a mouth watering menu that will please all palates’.
Julia Mulligan, the then, Parliamentary Candidate for Leeds North-West recently launched the grand re-opening of Citrus which is now owned by business partners Ian Green and Gary Oldroyd. Julia, who is passionately devoted to LGBT rights, said that she was incredibly proud to open such an exciting new venture.
Citrus consists of three floors. These are a downstairs restaurant where your food is meticulously prepared by their in-house chef who trained under Gordon Ramsey himself. The second floor is a magnificent lounge that has many comfortable sofas, an array of fantastic cocktails and proud displays of art work from local people. Also, the second floor provides live music, big screen sports and Reggae Sunday’s all of which are sure to provide entertainment for all. The top floor of Citrus has three full-sized American Pool tables.
Gary Oldroyd said, “We are incredibly proud of Citrus and we welcome everyone from all walks of life. Our middle floor lounge area is available for private bookings if people wish to come and celebrate their Civil Partnership engagements, wedding receptions or anything else. We will cater for all needs.”
Gary’s partner Nicky said, “We also want a venue for the ‘grown-up’s’ of Headingley to be able to go to and relax.” As an emphasis of this, Citrus is the only bar in Headingley that has a ‘no fancy-dress’ policy as Headingley is well known for its thousands of students parading around in various outfits whilst on a drinking binge. Nicky continued, “our customers will not have to share their hard-earned evenings out with the Pirates of the Caribbean or drunken bananas!”
Citrus Bar is a refreshing change for LGBT people who wish to go out for a meal or drink with their partner away from the gay scene and kiss, cuddle and hold hands without inappropriate looks or comments from staff. The management have also been quick to assure Gay Leeds that if any of their other customers behave in a less than respectful fashion then they will be asked to leave.
