Homo - every Thursday @ Mission, Heaton's Court, Leeds
The biggest weekly gay night in Leeds. Every Thursday over 1,000 gay folk flock to Mission for their weekly fix of Homo. 2 rooms of music - pop and cheese in 1 and funky and club classics in the other. The fact that it's ridiculously cheap to get in (£3 at time of writing this) and that most of the drinks on sale are only £1.50 makes this night very popular with the younger, student crowd. Occasional big PAs from the likes of Gina G or Chico from the X-Factor. Highly recommended! web - www.clubmission.com phone - 08701 220 114 Federation - 1st Saturday of every month @ Victoria Works It originally started off as a gay night under the arches of Leeds' train station 6 years ago. Within months it had turned into the place to be, regardless of gender or sexual orientation. After 5 years at it's original home, it moved on to the historic Corn Exchange and then into Mission, but it's subsequent homes never really felt right. Now Leeds is buzzing as the mighty Federation is moving to a purpose built warehouse from the beginning of March 2008. You can expect huge and lavish stage, sound and light shows and 3 arenas of music. We recommend that you buy a ticket first from Fibre on Lower Briggate as "Fed" as the locals affectionately call it nearly always sells-out. Past events have featured oompa-lumpas, 8 foot robots, a Punch & Judy show and walking Christmas Trees. Mixmag has named it club of the month twice, it's that good! web - www.clubfederation.com phone - 08701 245 567 The Loft - Queen's Court, 167-168 Lower Briggate, Leeds Part of the Queen's Court complex, The Loft club is open Monday, Friday and Saturday nights and is the only permanent gay club in the city. Monday nights sees it play host to the popular Pink Pounder, with all branded drinks from just £1 and camp & fluffy music on both floors. Fridays and Saturdays are more of the same, with cheap admission and a few more recent chart and club anthems thrown in. Attracts a real mix of people and is the only real choice if you're insistent on being surrounded by 100% gay people. web - www.queens-court.co.uk/loft phone - 0113 245 9449 Speedqueen - 3rd Saturday of every month @ Discotheque Once upon a time there was a club night called Vague at the Warehouse, which was the UK's first proper polysexual club night with a notoriously strict door policy. When it ended in 1996, one of the original owners started a similar night call I-Spy, but soon after it was renamed Speedqueen. During it's warehouse days it ruled the roost over Leeds clubbing, you were always guaranteed a packed night, with queues round the block. (The trick was to become a member to have a better chance of admission and thousands did just that. After years of happy clubbing, it suddenly stopped and Speedqueen at the Warehouse was no more (and a million rumours flew round the city as to why!). Speedqueen has now set up home once a month a Gatecrasher's club - Discotheque. We've heard many reports from the new venue - some good, mostly bad and its hard to imagine it will ever reclaim the crown as the queen of Leeds clubs again. They say "Long Live The Queen". And she's certainly still going after more than 10 years and not many club nights will ever last this long! web - www.speedqueen.co.uk phone - 0113 246 1033 |
