All this
modern technology is baffling me. When I was growing up, there were only three
television channels. We didn't even have a coloured TV until I was fifteen; my
mum was convinced they would damage our eyesight. So you can understand why I
haven't worked out exactly what buttons are what on my Virgin media remote.
About two weeks ago, I was changing channels, when
I accidentally pressed the wrong button. Because of this, I've discovered that
I can watch all the programmes and films that have been screened on the nights
I have been at work. I don't even have to record them.
With all there is to entertain us on the TV and
internet, it's a wonder we have any time to have any physical contact with
other people. I no longer have to call and visit friends, not when I can 'chat'
to them via Facebook and text. They can even send me a 'virtual hug' when
things aren't going right. And how do they know when I am down? It's all over
the net!
Call me old fashioned, but I do get slightly
worried about where all this technology is leading us. Spending time in the
virtual world means less time to spend in the real world. When I'm down and
needing a hug, only the real thing will do! When someone tells me a joke, they
rarely hear me laugh, lol.
Instead of staying home and being a slave to all
this modern technology, use it to get out and about. Arrange to meet like-minded
people, plan a night out, find out how to take up a new hobby, or just see if
old friends are going to be in and you call round for a chat and a cuppa. It's
YOUR television and YOUR computer. So it's up to YOU to turn them off and go
out and socialise once in a while.
