Quebecs Hotel
Quebecs is a grand, traditional 4 star hotel set within a luxury Grade II listed Victorian building. Steeped in history and a perfect example of the finer things in life, Quebecs Hotel is a crown jewel in Leeds accommodation.
The hotel features five huge stain glass windows which display the coast of arms of the principal towns of Yorkshire, as well as restored Victorian furnishings throughout.
Whilst not being as close to the gay scene as other accommodation featured here on GayLeeds.com, Quebecs is situated a mere two minutes away from the train station, and is close to the shopping and business centres of Leeds. (And, it’s still only about five minutes away from The Viaduct!)
After spending the night there, GayLeeds.com can comment as follows:
Quebecs Hotel is a grand, traditional building, which has a beautiful terracotta exterior. The beauty continues inside, where you’re greeted not only by a friendly face, but also by a magnificent staircase and a breath-taking large and detailed stain glass window.
Check in was straightforward, with the reception feeling more like the entrance to a Poirot-esque country house than a city centre hotel.
The unique thing about Quebecs is that once inside you immediately forget both where the hotel is situated and that you’re actually in a hotel. The hotel (despite GayLeeds seeing a wide variety of guests), is particularly quiet. Considering it’s in the heart of the city centre, you’d be forgiven for thinking you were in the middle of the countryside. This, of course, makes the hotel a top choice if you’re wanting to get through some work, however GayLeeds was slightly disappointed at the apparent lack of wi-fi in the hotel. (Broadband is available).
The openness of meeting spaces and the informal honesty bar (which has a great, relaxed atmosphere), makes a guest feel more like they are staying with a rich, distant aunt than in a hotel. We also liked the touch of the CD playing classical music into the room upon our arrival.
The room was a large and filled with light from the floor to high-ceiling windows, and the bathroom was a modern surprise, with a refreshing power shower. Despite the traditional décor not being particularly to our taste, GayLeeds appreciated the hotel staying true to the building’s history and original features.
Breakfast was held in the sunny Conservatory room, right at the top of the hotel, with a view over some parts of the Leeds skyline. There was ample choice, with friendly and attentive service.
Throughout our stay we were treated excellently, left to enjoy the quiet and relaxed atmosphere of the hotel. GayLeeds also met up with a few friends at the bar, who were also welcomed into the hotel, and received the same, pleasant welcome. For a stay in Gay Leeds in beautiful, traditional and relaxed settings, we recommend Quebecs Hotel.
